Cotton Buds

Dr Dennis Chua is an ENT Specialist that frequently sees ear wax problems.

Have you ever cleaned out your ears (or your children’s ears) with cotton swabs? My advice is don’t do it!

Dr. Chua explanation on why it is not a good idea to use cotton buds to remove ear wax goes here.

  1. It can injure the ear canal resulting in bleeding and trauma to the ear canal.
  2. It can increase chance of ear infection.
  3. It can worsen ear wax impaction!
  4. Its unnecessary!

Ears are self cleaning. Generally speaking as long as we keep the ears dry, ear wax should fall out automatically. Ear wax will tend to accumulate when there is excessive moisture or if the patient is suffering from eczema of the skin which results in increased wax production. If you have issues with ear wax problems, consider visiting Dr. Dennis Chua.
